Can Anyone Do a Hospitality Apprenticeship?


In most cases, yes.


Hospitality apprenticeships are available to learners aged 16 and over and are suitable for school leavers, career changers and existing employees. Both the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor and Level 4 Hospitality Manager apprenticeships delivered by Momentous Learning are designed for learners aged 16+ and combine workplace experience with structured learning.


Typically, learners need to:


  • Be aged 16 or over.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Be employed in a suitable hospitality role.

  • Spend at least 50% of their working hours in England.

  • Be able to develop significant new knowledge, skills and behaviours through the programme.


Unlike university courses, hospitality apprenticeships do not usually require UCAS points or extensive academic qualifications.


Do You Need Previous Hospitality Experience?


Not necessarily.


Many hospitality apprentices begin with limited experience. Employers often place greater importance on qualities such as:


  • Excellent communication skills

  • Customer focus

For higher-level programmes, some supervisory or management experience may be beneficial, particularly for learners progressing into management roles.

Which Hospitality Apprenticeship Is Right for You?



Our Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are responsible for supervising teams and supporting day-to-day operations.


Typical job titles include:


  • Hospitality Supervisor

  • Shift Supervisor

  • Assistant General Manager

  • Department Supervisor


Over 13 months, learners develop practical leadership, customer service and operational skills before progressing to End-Point Assessment.




Our Level 4 Hospitality Manager Apprenticeship is designed for individuals with greater responsibility who want to strengthen their leadership and management capability.


Typical job titles include:


  • Restaurant Manager

  • General Manager

  • Operations Manager

  • Food and Beverage Manager

  • Kitchen Manager

  • Department Manager


The programme runs for 15 months and focuses on business performance, leadership, customer experience and developing people.



Do You Need English and Maths Qualifications?


Not always.


Learners who do not already hold Level 2 English and maths qualifications may complete Functional Skills alongside their apprenticeship. English and maths are mandatory for learners under 19, while those aged 19 and over may opt out with employer agreement. Specialist support is available for those completing Functional Skills.


This means that not having GCSE English and maths should not necessarily prevent someone from pursuing a hospitality apprenticeship.


Can Existing Employees Complete a Hospitality Apprenticeship?


Absolutely.


Many employers use apprenticeships to develop existing staff rather than recruit externally. Apprenticeships can support:
